With over 25 years in the industry the combined knowledge of Abbey and Chris makes for a formidable team in the trad boat industry. Offering a wide range of services from lifting, maintenance, storage and moorings to building and restoring some of the most prestigious yachts and motor cruisers.
Abbey spent over a decade honing her skills and craftmanship on the River Thames and learning from some of the best in the industry. After 10 years of training at Dennett Boat Builders in Surrey it was with Steve Dennett’s support that she set up on her own in Norfolk and now runs a boatyard known for its prestige, quality of workmanship and customer service. She follows in the footsteps of a long line of ancestors who all worked on the Norfolk Broads as wherryman, lifeboat men and boat builders. On the walls of the boatyard office hang multiple trophies and rosettes received for her impeccable restoration work over the last 3 years of running and managing the Norfolk based boat yard.
It wasn’t until her third year in business that Abbey Boat Builder met Chris Tuckett who specialises in traditional and performance yachts, rigging and the long term care & maintenance of traditional yachts. Chris had spent years perfecting his own skills, competing in dinghy racing at national and world championship level and also racing yachts on the Norfolk Broads. He has been running a traditional boatyard for the last ten years, maintaining and rigging traditional class sailing yachts ranging from 118 year old race winners to modern carbon fibre.
After a year of working side by side on various successful restorations they decided to combine forces and open a new yard in a larger and more well-equipped facility and so Reedham was born.
It is clear to see that this is not just a job for Abbey or Chris. They live and breathe this industry, it’s a way of life for them and if you pass by any of their boats at shows or out on one of Britain’s many famous waterways then its clear to see that they pour their heart and soul into every restoration.
